John Williams is managing partner of Washington DC law firm Duncan & Allen, where he has practised energy and natural resources law since 1985. He has advised the World Bank and governments on three continents with respect to mining law and related tax, investment and environmental law reform and implementation. He assisted the governments of Bolivia and Mongolia in developing their 1997 mining laws; and has worked extensively on mining law reform and mining agreements in Madagascar and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He has also assisted large and small companies and developers with mining projects in the DRC. He is a co-author of, or contributor to, four books on international developments in mining law published between 2001 and 2005, and has made numerous presentations on mining law issues at international conferences on five continents.
